PMO Functions

Either you are implementing PMO in your organization or you already have one, understanding functions of PMO is important. Most of the PMOs fail because they are either not focusing on right areas or they are over-doing their jobs. Typically PMO should:

- Assist: Help organization’s business leaders, analysts, marketing gurus in business case development for projects.
- Prioritize: Based on organization’s strategic objectives, prioritize projects. Project must be linked with and draw their significant from organization’s strategic goals.
- Plan & Assign: Plan and assign resources to the project and programs.
- Train & Coach: Provide mentoring to teams and project leaders
- Facilitation: Facilitate project processes in various projects
- Documentation: Publish standards, templates and best practices
- Communicate: Communicate across business units and with clients
- Centralize: Centralize lessons learned, project data, other artifacts
- Lead post-implementation reviews
- Evaluate and gather metrics
